Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships a Major Trend in Combating Climate Change
Introduction
Confronting climate change is a complicated issue requiring involvement from every sector. The Pleon Climate Change Stakeholder Report takes a close look at how multinational firms (with a European focus) respond to regulatory environments and stakeholder pressures around climate change. Based on new research, the report will examine trends in the efforts of major companies to meet long term planning and technology development needs of the climate change agenda. In a short-term regulatory environment and changing consumer consciousness around energy issues, what do firms need to start thinking about to meet the coming challenges of consumers and other stakeholders?
Relevance
Drawing upon data provided by more than 350 FT Global 500 companies, this report will identify trends in multinational firms’ responses to climate change. What makes this publication distinct from other climate change publications is its primary focus on multi-stakeholder initiatives. Our research indicates that participating in climate change partnerships has emerged as a meaningful way for firms to manage regulatory uncertainty and stakeholder expectations. With strong evidence of the importance of cooperative initiatives, this report will provide firms with insight into competitor and industry trends in partnership formation. This research suggests that climate change partnerships are a significant arena for companies to manage the risks and exploit the opportunities posed by climate change.
Target Audience
This report is aimed at corporate decision makers involved in climate change activities, including those in public affairs, marketing, and energy/environment programmes. The challenge for firms is to anticipate the direction of regulatory environments and to respond to increasing stakeholder expectations to take action around climate change. The report will also serve as a valuable resource for NGOs and government stakeholders engaging in climate change partnerships.
