Pleon and METRO Cash & Carry honored with three Magellan Awards

The League of American Communications Campaigns (LACP) has awarded Pleon with three prestigious Magellan awards for its work with METRO Cash & Carry.

One of the only European programmes to be recognised, Pleon's "METRO Fussballhimmel" Grand Opening Event in Berlin was honoured as one of the "Top 50 Communications Campaigns of 2006." The same community outreach sky football event also walked away with a Silver Award for "Excellence in Development." In addition, Pleon and METRO Cash & Carry received a Bronze Award for "Excellence in Communications Campaign," an internal change management and communications project executed in 28 countries.

Commenting on the achievement of the Top 50 Communications Campaign awards, Petra Rob, Head of Corporate Communications METRO Cash & Carry, explained the significance of the reached position: "With the opening event we have reached position 27 among all submitted projects and have been recognized as the top foreign company. This is a very good performance in a strongly US-focused competition."

Sven Jacobsen, Corporate Communications METRO Cash & Carry, commented the Bronze Award for the roll-out of the "Excellence in Communications" strategy: "Our team is very proud of this decoration. Our ability to provide strong central communications management that simultaneously allows flexibility for local adaptation has proven to be a successful strategy." The LACP is dedicated to supporting and recognising excellence in the practice of professional communications. Awarded in late December from San Diego, the annual communication campaign competition Magellan Awards drew an unprecedented number of entries for 2006, representing a broad range of industries and organisational sizes. Silver and Bronze winners demonstrated a laser focus on communications grounded in creativity and passion. Judges cited the Pleon/METRO Cash & Carry entries as "a showcase of creativity, fresh thinking, and a great job of tying community involvement with brand elevation." In addition, the entries were praised for "a notably comprehensive outreach campaign with a 'deep set' of communications materials."

More than 400 entries were received for the 2006 Magellan Awards, comprising communications campaigns from seven countries. Judges rank awards through a comprehensive scoring process and the top 50 winners are given an additional distinction as a "Top 50 Communications Campaign." The "METRO Fussballhimmel" Grand Opening Event in Berlin was classified as among the top 27 of all communications materials judged by the LACP this year.
