Pleon Wins Again for G8 Summit

After becoming the globally recognised symbol of the 2007 G8 Summit, the giant beach chair lands another win for Pleon with the 2007 MERCURY Awards.

February, 2008 – Pleon adds to its list of achievements with the latest industry awards, the MERCURY Awards.  Germany’s Berlin group was awarded the Silver Award for Publicity in Travel and Tourism for its work with the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV) and its sponsorship of the 2007 G8 Summit. The highlight of the winning campaign was, of course, the XXL wicker beach chair which was the setting for the G8 leaders’ group photograph and exemplified MV’s regional strengths of tourism and health and well-being. This beach chair not only covered the front pages of newspapers around the world (from London to Saudi Arabia), it also went on tour and appeared on main German TV channels. This winning programme is one example of how Pleon’s results-driven teams use core PR tactics creatively to achieve far-reaching success.

Pleon was chosen from over 970 entries from 23 countries in over 290 categories and classifications, with industry judges honoring creativity, determination, functionality, originality, and smart thinking. The MERCURY Awards are a leading international award recognising excellence in public relations and corporate communications.

The MERCURY Awards are presented by the International Academy of Communications Arts and Sciences, a 500 member body of leading practitioners in the various fields of communications. Pleon will be formally recognized at a champagne reception in New York City on March 8, 2008.
